Richmond Council and Veolia Environmental Services partnered up to offer pupils the chance to design their own banner to feature on the borough’s waste and recycling trucks.
The panel of judges, which included Cllr Pamela Fleming, Cabinet Member for Environment, Nigel Ray Head of Waste and Recycling at Richmond and Franco Murphy, Veolia Environmental Services Richmond Contract Manager, had the unenviable task of picking the winner and runners-up. They are:
1st place: Eve Dickson from Teddington School
2nd place: Jessica Hornibrook from Hampton Infant School
3rd place: Anah Crowley from St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School
Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Fleming said: “We were so impressed by the quality and number of entries submitted, and judging them was no easy task. Eve’s design, however, perfectly fulfilled our brief as it is bright and eye-catching but also informative.
“Recycling effectively is vital if we are to preserve our beautiful borough and I’m thrilled that young people are helping us lead the way.
“Congratulations to Eve and all the other participants for all their hard work!”
Franco Murphy, from Veolia Environmental Services, said: "It was very pleasing to see so many high-quality entries as it showed that the children had all put such a lot of thought and effort into their designs. Eve's winning entry is going to look fantastic up on our recycling and refuse trucks and we hope it helps encourage Richmond residents to keep on recycling."
