Residents and traders using the Churchfields Road site, run by Veolia Environmental Services, can view the footage on Bromley Council’s website and check for traffic queues before starting their journey. The news follows the installation of the popular Waldo Road web cameras which have helped to reduce the congestion at the Bromley-based Reuse and Recycling Centre.
“We have long since aspired to bring Churchfields communication link into line with Waldo Road’s and it is really good news for those living locally that we’ve now managed to ‘tick that box’. Journey planning does make a difference and these cameras make it simple to decide whether ‘now’ is a good time to visit or not. Regular users of the site will know that there are times when the site is much quieter and there are no queues. Now that knowledge is being shared on the web for all to see to enable those visiting at busier times to adjust their arrivals, saving queuing time for themselves and reducing pollution levels for those living nearby. A win / win situation for everybody” said Councillor Colin Smith, Executive Councillor for Environment.
Robert Seear, Veolia's Regional Manager for South London, said: "Both our Reuse and Recycling Centres in Bromley are extremely popular, with hundreds and even thousands of residents and traders visiting each site daily. Naturally this could result in the queues building up, so for visitors to have the ability to assess the queues before they set off for the sites is an invaluable time-saving feature."
The news also follows confirmation of £145,000 of grant funding to improve both the Churchfields Road and Waldo Road sites. The improvement plans will see mini skips being installed with new flooring and signage, which will make the operations on site easier and more efficient. As well as reducing queuing, the improvements will also increase the amounts that are able to be recycled.

Editor’s notes – The London Waste & Recycling Board (LWRB) grant will improve the sites for the estimated 100,000 visits being made to the Waldo Road Reuse and Recycling Centre and the estimated 50,000 visits being made to the Churchfields Road site on an annual basis.
