Successful Clean Sweep for Watford Roads!

In a recent deep clean of the town, over three tonnes of rubbish was collected from 21 busy streets.

In a recent deep clean of the town, over three tonnes of rubbish was collected from 21 busy streets.

Nearly 99m2 of footpaths and 39m2 of roads were also repaired and the tarmac replaced.

The council’s partner Veolia regularly clean all the streets in the town, but these 21 streets – in the wards of Callowland, Leggatts, Holywell, Vicarage and Central Watford, are usually busy with parked cars. This makes it difficult for the regular street cleaning patrols to access parts of the road.

As well as working in partnership with Veolia to give the roads a good clean, Herts County Council, Ringway and Murrills Construction Ltd were on hand to replace and repair signage, potholes and paint new lines on the road.

Elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “I’m really pleased with the results and hope it has helped residents feel proud of their neighbourhoods. It was disappointing that we have to move 45 cars in order to get the work done.  We’ll be doing more of the same next year and we’ll need everyone’s co-operation to make this really worthwhile.”

Matthew Crane, Senior Contract Manager for Veolia in Watford said: “We would like to thank all residents who cooperated with us to ensure the deep clean programme ran smoothly. Thanks to the majority of residents moving their cars we were able to access parts of the street we aren’t usually able to reach, helping keep Watford clean, green and safe.”
