Using your blue-lidded recycling bin, the vast majority of Easter egg packaging can be recycled, including: clean foil, cardboard boxes, plastic tubs and trays. Residents are also able to recycle:
- Paper
- Plastic bottles
- Food tins, drinks cans and aerosols
- Cartons
- Glass bottles and jars.
From now on residents are able to put out as much recycling as they like, using clearly labelled or clear plastic bags for the extra recycling. Glass bottles and jars should be put in the blue-lidded bin, rather than a plastic bag. Remember always Recycle Right - empty any liquid and rinse out any food or drink residue before recycling.
Matthew Crane, Senior Contract Manager for Veolia in Watford said: “About 8,000 tonnes of waste is generated from Easter egg packaging and cards in the UK. By using the borough’s recycling service, residents can ensure the majority of this waste is recycled and that valuable resources are protected.”
Easter is also often seen as a good time to have a spring clean and if that is the case and you have more waste than usual this Easter, you can visit the two Household Waste and Recycling Centre at Waterdale (WD25 0PR) and Rickmansworth (WD3 1FS) – for opening times and more information about the sites, visit the WasteAware website on http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/envplan/waste/wasteaware/.
For more information about Watford’s waste and recycling collections or the chargeable bulky waste service, please contact the Veolia Watford Contact Centre on 020 3567 6900 or email [email protected].
to check their waste and recycling collection calendars as collection dates will be changing due to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
