Five employees from Veolia, Watford Borough Council’s partners for waste and recycling collections, street cleansing and grounds maintenance services, helped Watford’s Holy Rood Catholic Primary School prepare for the arrival of a very special visitor.
On Thursday 22 September, His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, visited the school on Greenbank Road to celebrate their 120th Anniversary. Thanks to Veolia’s one day volunteering scheme, designed so employees can help put something back into the local community, five Veolia Watford staff were able to support. The team undertook a number of tasks including: weeding, cleansing and wood staining around the school’s playground to help ensure the school was in tip top condition for the visit.
Matt Crane, Senior Contract Manager for Veolia Watford who also helped on the volunteering day, said: “We were delighted to be asked to help the school prepare for its anniversary celebrations. Through our employee volunteering scheme we are able to help put something back into the local community, providing free help and support for a number of vital community projects.”
Savraj Ram, Year 4 Class Teacher, said: "We were delighted to have Veolia volunteers come in and share their expertise with us who were enthusiastic, hardworking and pro-active. I am looking forward to working with them again as they were such a fantastic and helpful bunch!"”
