Vintage trailer transports musicians with learning disabilities at the Lord Mayor’s Show 2013

Theatre Company Spare Tyre will be sponsored by leading recycling and waste management company Veolia Environmental Services to take part in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show. A vintage curtain side trailer will transport the Spare Tyre Band – a group of musicians with learning disabilities – in the show.

Veolia Environmental Services’ vintage trailer, found in a field in Bromley and last used to carry horses for the merry go round in a Russian circus, will be designed by award winning designer, Magdalen Rubalcava.

The trailer will be decorated with birds and poppies crafted by participants and volunteers in the Lambeth area.

The float will be representative of the diverse communities that Spare Tyre works with. Spare Tyre’s person-centred drama, movement and music workshops enable participants with learning disabilities to express themselves as creative beings.

Spare Tyre’s Artistic Director, Arti Prashar said, “We’re delighted to be sponsored by Veolia Environmental Services at this spectacular 3-mile long procession. Our partnership with Veolia focuses on recycling, volunteering and actively supporting people with learning disabilities.”

Robert Seear, Veolia’s Regional Manager for South London, said: “We are proud to support Spare Tyre and be a part of this fantastic, world famous event. We look forward to working with Magdalen and all at Spare Tyre to help create what we hope will be an extremely impressive float.”
