Delivering street cleansing, recycling and waste services for Camden residents
Veolia was awarded an eight-year environment services contract with Camden Council which started in April 2017. We have been delivering street cleansing, recycling and waste services in Camden since 2003. The current contract aims to increase recycling and reduce costs for the council, allowing them to spend more on providing residents with other essential services.
We use modern technology and innovations to deliver more efficient street cleansing and waste collection services with the aims of increasing recycling and reducing fly-tipping. For example, on-board technology in vehicles allow drivers to record collections in real time, and cameras help to resolve complaints.
Since April 2017 Veolia has also been responsible for the following services as part of the contract; Business recycling and rubbish (sales and marketing), Graffiti, drug paraphernalia and flyposting removal, Customer services, Communications, Container management.
Refuse and Recycling
Residents can use their recycling bins or bags to recycle items such as paper, card, plastics, glass and metals. For full information on what can and can't be recycled, please follow the link to the Camden Council Website.
Items that cannot be recycled should be placed out for collection in securely tied black sacks.
Street cleansing
We operate a 'village' approach to street cleansing in Camden. Teams work and focus on specific areas. Each village has a strategically-located base for our staff to operate from. In busy parts of Camden such as around Kings Cross St Pancras Station and Camden Town, our operations extend into the night to restore areas to the highest standards of cleanliness.
In total, we sweep around 260 km of public highway in Camden from frequencies varying from a constant presence to a weekly sweep. The new contract operates a more flexible, responsive and efficient service to keep Camden streets clean and tidy.
Special Events
We are also involved in numerous special events throughout the year. The borough of Camden incorporates parts of Covent Garden and Theatreland, as well as Camden Town, the BT Tower, Hamstead Heath and Kings Cross St Pancras Station.
