Community groups in Southwark and Lewisham awarded funding for new projects to improve local area
Northbrook Park Community Group, Deptford Park Primary School, Greenhouse London Football Club and the Royal London Society for Blind People were all successful in their applications for funding.
Northbrook Park, in Lee, Lewisham, was awarded £3,000 towards revamping an overgrown area at the back of the park, which once cleared will allow for new fences, small gates, a pathway, a sensory garden and bird feeders to be installed.
Deptford Park Primary School was granted £4,000 for its Breakfast Clubs, which can now be opened up to both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupils. The purpose of the Clubs is to make it affordable for those on low incomes to provide children with a wide range of breakfasts, nice and comfortable play and relaxation areas and greater interaction with teaching staff so they have a positive start to their days.
Greenhouse London Football Club, based in Burgess Park, has received £3,000 to help deliver soccer schools, community outreach programmes and life skills to young people of various ages in the areas surrounding the park that don’t already play for one of the Greenhouse football team age groups.
Finally, £2,000 was awarded to the Royal London Society for Blind People to help them maintain and expand their drop-in centres for parents with blind babies, offering a support network with staff who have expert knowledge and confidence, to help parents give their babies the best possible start in life as well as provide an opportunity for them to meet other families in similar situations.
Robbie Jameson, SELCHP’s General Manager, said: “The SELCHP Community Fund has awarded over the years more than £260,000 to local community projects such as these, and each one has been thoroughly deserving of the funding. We are proud to play our part in helping these wonderful projects get off the ground or expand further as they all benefit so many people in the local area. We already look forward to receiving the applications for next year’s funding.”
