Lambeth Music Festival 2015, sponsored by Veolia, returns with week of concerts
Taking place across Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Infant and Junior Singing Concerts will kick off the week’s performances on Monday 23 March at 1.30pm and 5.30pm, featuring an incredible 1800 school children in the Royal Festival Hall, following weeks of rehearsing the Festival songs in their own schools.
Robert Seear, Veolia’s Regional Manager for South London, said: “As a company that prides itself on the integral role we play within communities, especially within Lambeth where we provide a host of vital services, we are delighted to support this wonderful event that showcases the talents of so many local children. As part of our involvement with the Festival we will be promoting recycling and sustainable living within Lambeth, using this event as an opportunity to provide information and encourage children, their parents and all visitors to the Festival to think greener.”
Cllr Imogen Walker, Deputy Leader of Lambeth Council, said: “The Lambeth Music Festival provides a fantastic stage for the borough’s young people to showcase their talent. I am always hugely impressed by the children taking part and they are a credit to Lambeth and their schools. A great deal of hard work and preparation goes into the event and everybody involved deserves our appreciation.”
The Lambeth Music Festival is a free festival open to the public and is the flagship annual event produced by Lambeth Music Service in partnership with Lambeth Music Network, Southbank Centre and resource management specialists Veolia. The Festival will showcase the musical talent of children aged 5 to 18 from over 50 schools and Lambeth Music Network partner organisations with orchestras, contemporary ensembles and choirs.
Oliver Bayley, Festival Producer and lead tutor for events at Lambeth Music Service said “What an amazing privilege to perform at one of the most iconic venues in the world. The co-ordination of the Lambeth Music Festival is no mean feat, but worth it when you see how proud children, parents and staff are once they have performed. We are looking forward to another great festival week”.
Gillian Moore, Music Director, Southbank Centre, says “Musicians from around the world come to perform at Southbank Centre, and it is a great joy that some of these musicians come from our home borough of Lambeth for the Lambeth Music Festival. For a whole week, thousands of young singers and instrumentalists will perform on the stages of the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and all round the site. It is one of the most uplifting events in our calendar. We thank every one of the 3000 young musicians in the Lambeth Music Festival for their hard work in preparing their performance, and wish them a heartfelt welcome”.
Brendon Le Page, Head of Lambeth Music Service add “There is a great deal of organisation behind the scenes by dedicated staff, schools, and Festival partners to stage an event of this size and quality. But, when year on year the the young performers amaze us with their creative and musical abilities, their sheer professionalism, discipline and respect for each other, it never ceases to fill me with pride and commit to doing it all again next year!”
Lambeth Music Service has a specialist team of over 70 experienced music teachers who are committed to providing musical excellence and access for all, both during the week and on Saturdays.
